Beyond the Giants: Why the Best Market Maker Isn't Always Named Wintermute
When we talk about market makers, Wintermute or DWF immediately come to mind. Large funds, big names, and direct connections to exchanges. It often seems that the liquidity market belongs only to them.
But this is where most people are mistaken. Not all projects can afford the services of such giants, especially today. Their checks, terms, and priorities are designed for top-cap projects and hype. Anything below that is simply uninteresting to them.
The Underserved Market
And the market is not made up of "top" companies alone. There are mid-sized and low-cap projects with a solid foundation, a real product, and dedicated teams. They also need liquidity, a healthy order book, and protection from manipulation. But where should they turn?
This is exactly the question my partner and I addressed when we created Arckea. Not as a "smaller Wintermute" but as a specialized market maker focused on this segment. We operate where big names and PR don't matter, but mathematics, risk management, and a deep understanding of real market behavior do.
The Quality Problem
Many will say that there are representatives in this space who also work directly with projects, providing liquidity, spreads, and protection from manipulation. But if you dig deeper and actually look at how they operate, it becomes clear that the quality of these services is catastrophically low.
It starts with the onboarding process, where the client is treated as just another wallet, without any attempt to understand the project's real problems or what it actually needs. And it ends with technical support, when their algorithm suddenly breaks for no clear reason, and only a kick from the token owner forces such an incompetent market maker to turn it back on.
Our Mission
There is almost no real competition in this segment. But because of these unqualified market participants, most founders now look at project market makers with caution and distrust.
That's why we deliberately chose this segment and understand it better than most. And this is where we intend to be the best. Not just in words, but in reality.
